A delegation comprising representatives of Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, the Energy Commission of Malaysia, the country’s largest electricity distribution company, and the Single Buyer—responsible for electricity procurement and planning—visited the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) to gain insight into Türkiye’s experience and expertise in electricity market regulation.

During the meeting, the Malaysian delegation received a comprehensive briefing on EMRA’s duties and powers, its organisational structure, and its role in the liberalisation of Türkiye’s power market.

Furthermore, technical presentations were delivered by EMRA experts covering pivotal topics, such as electricity market liberalisation policies, tariff design, the licensing of market participants and their compliance with regulatory requirements, measures to promote renewable energy sources, and the consumer protection framework.

The subsequent question-and-answer session addressed the delegation’s enquiries concerning market operation and regulatory oversight, facilitating a substantive exchange of insights regarding Türkiye’s energy framework, sector practices, and expertise.

The meeting concluded with the Malaysian delegates expressing their appreciation for EMRA’s hospitality and for the valuable exchange of knowledge and insights. Highlighting their interest in drawing upon EMRA's knowledge and expertise for the reform and transformation of Malaysia's electricity market, the delegation expressed their desire to maintain and further enhance bilateral cooperation in energy market regulation.
